The European Commission and the Finnish Presidency are pleased to announce the 2019 edition of the Security Research Event (SRE), which will take place at the Helsinki Congress Paasitorni, in Helsinki, Finland, on 6th and 7th November 2019.

Under the theme "Building bridges: reinforcing synergies between security research and other funding instruments", SRE 2019 will illustrate the strength and inspiring results of security-related research and innovation activities. It will encourage discussion on how a synergic use of different funding instruments can better promote the final market uptake of security research and, consequently, ensure the availability of state of the art knowledge and technologies to security practitioners.

The SRE will consist of two interrelated parts:

  • A Conference in which the main challenges related to the theme of the event will be addressed;
  • An Exhibition that will concretely support the conference's theme, featuring around 15 projects displaying their potential impact on the daily life of security practitioners.

SRE 2019 will gather around 400 participants representing a wide range of security stakeholders: researchers, industry representatives, public security providers and practitioners (i.e. fire departments, police, border guards, Law Enforcement Agencies, etc.), as well as a wide number of policymakers from across Europe.

While the first day of the Conference will be characterised by a number of high level interventions and discussions, the second day will address a number of security-related dimensions such as:

  • Procurement;
  • Terrorist content online;
  • Border security;
  • Artificial intelligence;
  • Disaster management;
  • Hybrid threats.
